Do shareholder views affect corporate political activities?

چکیده

In this paper, we study shareholder views on corporate political contributions. We find that, with shareholders' explicit approval, firms are more likely to have higher contribution, measured by the amount of donations US parties in next election cycle. Firm's contributions also a positive long-run impact firm valuations. When analysing firm's ideology, weak evidence that Democratic party may benefit from shareholder's support than Republican party, particularly case which recently switched their ideology party. Our results show approval has an engagement activities and imply if shareholders stand at same side firms, engage politically-related activities. key supported regression discontinuity design robust two-way clustered standard errors. • consents.
